Teshie Homowo 2026 Media Launch Held In Accra
Government Pledges Tourism Boost As Festival Is Unveiled.The official media launch for the 2026 Teshie Homowo Festivaland the broader GaDangme Homowo Celebrations was held on Friday, July 25, 2026, with government and traditional leaders pledging to position the festival as a key driver of tourism and community development.
The event, organized by the GaDangme Unity Organization in collaboration with the Teshie Traditional Council, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, brought together chiefs, government officials, sponsors, media and youth groups.
GOVERNMENT COMMITMENT
Addressing the gathering, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, said government will elevate Teshie Homowo under the Black Star Experience initiative.
“Teshie’s music, dance, cuisine and traditions are a national asset. We must preserve them and use them to create jobs and attract tourists,” she said.
Hon. Gomashie added that the Ghana Tourism Authority will partner with hotels and tour operators to package the festival for both local and international visitors.
DIGNITARIES AND THEME
The launch was held under the theme “Unity, Peace and Development in the GaDangme States.”
Present were Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and Greater Accra Regional Minister Hon. Linda Ocloo
The Nungua Gborbu Wulomo, Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII, officially launched the 2026 festivities on behalf of GaDangme traditional authorities.
Organizers noted the launch was rescheduled from June 28 to July 25 to allow for customary rites ahead of Nungua Homowo and to avoid clashing with Ghana’s FIFA World Cup match.
ACTIVITIES FOR TESHIE 2026
Officials announced key activities for Teshie, including:
Traditional rites and Kpokpei sprinkling by the Teshie Mantse and priests
Teshie Homowo Football Festival at Teshie Gonnor School Park
Cultural durbars, music and dance to showcase Teshie heritage
Tourism and business fair to promote local vendors
The GaDangme Youth Sports Festival and Awards will also run alongside to promote sports development and unity.
CALL FOR SUPPORT
A spokesperson for the Teshie Traditional Council called on the media, corporate Ghana and the diaspora to support the 2026 celebrations.
“This festival is about our identity, our history, and our future. We want the world to see Teshie,” the spokesperson said.
With government backing, stakeholders say Teshie Homowo 2026 is set to be one of the biggest cultural gatherings in Greater Accra this year
