J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage Outlines Events for 14th Anniversary Commemoration
Accra, Ghana July 16, 2026.
J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage has unveiled a series of activities to mark the 14th anniversary of the passing of former President John Evans Atta Mills, this years focus is on preserving his legacy of peace, unity and democratic governance.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the Chairman of the J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage, Hon. Alex Segbefia, said the commemorative activities will run from July 15 to July 25, 2026
Quoting the late President, Mr. Segbefia reminded Ghanaians of President Mills’ belief in using leadership to “heal wounds and unite our dear nation” through peace and national cohesion ,a message he said “remains as relevant today as it was during his presidency”.
President Mills, who died on July 24, 2012, remains the only Head of State in Ghana’s Fourth Republic to have passed away while in office. He is remembered as an accomplished legal scholar, academic and statesman committed to democratic governance, integrity and human development.

Venue: Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium, University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA)
Theme: _“President John Evans Atta Mills: Fourteen Years On”_
Speaker: Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation
Chairperson: Ms. Hannah Serwaa Tetteh, former Minister for Foreign Affairs and current UN Under-Secretary-General
Wreath-Laying Ceremony & Memorial Service
Date: Friday, July 24, 2026
Venue: Asomdwee Park, near Osu Castle
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to lay a wreath on behalf of the Republic of Ghana. Other wreaths will be laid by Parliament, the widow Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills, the Mills family, the NDC, J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage, and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.
President John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament
Date: Saturday, July 25, 2026
Venue: Theodosia Okoh National Hockey Pitch, Accra
The tournament honors President Mills’ passion for sports and youth development.
Mr. Segbefia emphasized that the Heritage is a non-partisan, independent charitable organization established to preserve the ideals and values of the late President. The selection of speakers from both NPP and NDC reflects President Mills’ belief in national unity beyond partisan politics.
J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage calls on the media and the general public to participate fully in all commemorative events to honor the memory and enduring legacy of one of Ghana’s most respected President.
